What Will The Raised Funds Pay For?

Presently, there is a fundraising campaign for this book on Jewcer, a crowdfunding platform for projects that pertain to Jewish topics. The total being raised is 40,000. How will those funds be deployed?

Three quarters of it, roughly $30,000, will enable me to complete the book within about 10 months while spending about half of my time on the book and half of my time on business valuation reports and other income-generating projects. This estimate is derived from previous experiences writing two self-authored books (The Einstein of Money & A Brief History of Entrepreneurship), two co-authored books (From Lifeguard to Sun King & Back in Balance) and extensive ghostwriting and ghost editing projects stretching back over 20 years. Spending about half of my working time on the book, I will be able to complete all of the required research, writing and editing in 10-11 months.

The remaining third, roughly $10,000, will enable me to print at least 2,000 copies of the book, self-publish it on Amazon and, perhaps most crucially, mail out copies of the book to every single Jewish campus organization in the English-speaking world – covering Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. I believe that that is where this project will have the most impact.

By providing the leadership of those campus organizations with intellectual ammunition to counter the most common and effective anti-Zionist/anti-Israel arguments, Is Zionism a Bad Word? will provide some support to Jewish campus organizations when so many of them are under attack – rhetorically and, at times, even physically. I see this as the most important aspect of this project.

I also intend to send copies of the book to prominent print, radio & TV journalists who cover the Middle East, as well as the many podcasters who dabble in the subject but generally know very little about it. This, like the campus outreach, is an effort that could have a significant impact on the discourse regarding Zionism and Israel.

Lastly, especially as a published author, there is a chance that a publisher will, at some point, pick up the book and have it distributed in bookstores, possibly have it translated into foreign languages, etc. However, I am not counting on that. As long as I can send out enough copies to the right people, I can ensure that the book will have an impact with or without the support of a traditional publisher.
